Mom Who Boss ft. Jessica Ferguson
Updated: May 19
Jessica is such a cool and beautiful woman! She is full of love and will give to anyone she meets. With all of that goodness you can throw in a boss hairdresser who has a dream of being in service to the world.
She is a personal and close friend of mine. (Can you tell by my previous description? :)) We have been friends since we were fourteen years old and now as we have grown into adulthood, both 31 now, we can still call one another family.
She is a bomb hairdresser and honestly the only one that can do my hair perfectly AND tell me how to do it perfectly over the phone since we live miles away. This is everyone's view of her and I am so glad to be able to share who she is with the rest of you guys who have not had the chance to sit in her "chair" to experience her transforming hands all up in your crown. :)
Who is Jessica a.k.a. Jess Hair?
She is a 31 year old woman who has been doing hair professionally for 13 years. She is a mother of two of a beautiful girl and handsome boy. :) She is one of the best beauticians in her field and everyone is always in love with the final product of their hair. She has always been interested in hair even as a child, always intrigued with the many different textures all around.
"I paid attention to every single person's hair around me."
When she finished high school she wanted to go to school for criminal justice at a university but just did not connect with the various topics of the subject. So instead she decided to follow her heart, so her mom invested in her future to attend cosmetology school which gave her the strong foundation she needed to be the success she is now.
What is your typical day like?
She wakes up and takes care of her baby girl and son, getting them ready for the day. She takes them to their perspective places and then goes back home to get herself ready for a busy day at the salon.
"Being a mommy comes first."
She goes to her salon, Mystique Beauty Lounge, and sets up for the day by getting ready for her clients. She usually works non-stop the entire day and then she's headed on her way to pick up her kiddos. She takes care of them, getting them fed and tucked into bed and then gets a bit of quiet time.
What inspires you to keep going?
Jessica said that her children inspire her! (This is one thing I believe we all have in common as mamas:)). She also explained that her passion of taking care and making someone's hair beautiful inspires her. Being a hairdresser also gives her countless opportunities to display her creative side and be "in the know" on new things happening in the hair industry. Jessica candidly shared that doing hair helps her with anxiety and even depression. The benefits of going out and doing what you love give many benefits which include creating an awesome mental space where you can thrive within!
What advice would you give to an aspiring or current mom boss?
"Educate yourself about the do's and dont's of your industry"
"Learn from your peers"
"Plan and create a goal"
"Know that a lot of little steps make one big step."
I cannot wait until Jess moves to Texas so that she can always do my hair but most importantly I can feel her positive, energizing energy on a regular basis. (This is a hope and a dream :))
