Homemade Vegan Bread

My family and I are obsessed with homemade bread! Especially when it is fresh out of the oven because we tend to eat an entire loaf in 10 minutes or less! It is so delicious with butter but even by itself you can see us just walking around the house with a piece of bread in our hand as a snack! I am so excited to share this recipe with you. Sometimes I like to add a bit of ground flaxseed to the mix to make it a bit more nutritious.

Ingredients


  1. 1 1/2 tablespoons dry active yeast

  2. 2/3 cups pure cane sugar

  3. 2 cups warm water

  4. 1/4 cup oil (not olive oil due to the strength of its taste)

  5. 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

  6. 6 cups of all purpose flour (about 5 cups if using whole wheat flour)

Directions

  1. Add water, yeast and sugar to a measuring cup and cover with towel

  2. Allow to rise and foam for about 7 minutes

  3. Add sugar, water and yeast to a large bowl

  4. Add oil and salt and stir

  5. Add flour, one cup at a time, stir well

  6. Add well mixed dough to a greased bowl and cover with a damp towel (It is VERY important for the dough to remain damp so it will be nice and fluffy once done)

  7. Let sit and rise for an hour

  8. Punch dough

  9. Cut dough in half

  10. Knead each piece of dough for five minutes

  11. Roll dough onto a floured surface and make flat

  12. Roll dough into a cylinder and fold ends under to create a "loaf"

  13. Place in bread pan and cover with damp towel.

  14. Allow to rise for 20 minutes

  15. Place in oven for 30 minutes

  16. Tap the sides or bottom to check for a hollow sound to ensure it is done!
